Autumn At Oz

Last weekend we did the coolest thing!  Emily and I went with some friends to Beech Mountain for the Autumn at Oz Festival.  It is located where there used to be a Wizard of Oz theme park in the 70s.  After a fire in the 80s it closed but they open it up one weekend a year for this event.  It was so much fun!  Our friends have a house at Beech Mountain so we left after school on Friday and spent the night. The girls got to share a room and have a little slumber party.

We were up early the next morning to get tickets for the festival.  Here is the map.  Our tour time wasn't until later that morning so we picked up a map and went back to the house to get ready.

We're off to see the Wizard!

                             Two Dorothys and two Totos.

Professor Marvel

Almira Gulch

Miss Gulch told the girls she was looking for Toto.  The girls were worried and did their best to hide their Totos.

What a view!  The leaves were starting to turn colors.

We met Auntie Em outside of Dorothy's house.

We entered Dorothy's house and we got to see the rooms as they would have been.

Next we entered the storm cellar because, of course, a tornado was coming. We were worried about taking the girls down there.  We thought it might be too scary but that was the only way to get to Oz so down we went. It was dark and as we walked through we could hear the wind from the tornado.  When the tornado was over, we went back up into the house and it was a mess.  You felt like you were leaning and all the rooms were messed up.  When we walked outside, we met this guy.

And we saw this.  Yep, you guessed it.  Apparently the house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East.

Dorothy and Glenda were waiting for us at the beginning of the yellow brick road and yes, Glenda told us to "follow the yellow brick road".

                                       Munchkin Land

We saw the Scarecrow and his house.

Next we met the Tin man.

                       He needed some oil.

Oh, my!

                             The Lion and his Den

Emily liked to check the map to see what was next.

The Witches Forest was next.  The girls weren't so excited about this.

There was the guard and flying monkeys too.

They wouldn't be in the picture with the witch alone.

                             The Witch and her castle.

Here we are with the whole gang!

We finally made it to the Emerald City.

                               The Wizard of Oz!!!

The girls got a sticker that said "I've been down the Yellow Brick Road".  Then we bought them a yellow brick from the yellow brick road.  They are working to restore it.

It was such a cool experience.  We had a fabulous time!  The moms had as much fun as the girls.  On the way home we found a cute little store/pumpkin patch.

Then this happened...
