Strawberries Everyday

Two years ago we got a strawberry plant as a favor at a Strawberry Short Cake birthday party.  We planted it and added some more.  We've gotten a few strawberries each year, maybe 10 or 15 each spring.  This year the plants are giving us 10-20 strawberries a day!

Our first ripe strawberries appeared the day that Emily went strawberry picking with her class.

Here is Emily eating a day worth of strawberry picking on Monday.  My fruit loving girl is in heaven.  It looks like our blueberry bush is going to give us lots of blueberries this year too!  Can't wait!

Strawberry Picking Field Trip

May has proven to be a busy month.  I am working to catch up on my blog posts.  Emily's class has already had FOUR field trip this month.  Yes, that is four field trips in three weeks.  WOW!  I was able to go on 3 of them and Jeff was able to make it to one which is amazing considering his work schedule.

Jeff decided to go to strawberry picking with Emily's class.  She was so excited!  He drove to the school and rode the bus.  I had to go into work for a bit so I met them there.  It was a great day!  The morning clouds helped to keep the temperature down which was great.

They kids had a lesson about how strawberries grow and how to pick the perfect strawberry.  Then they were able to go and pick.  This is what these two were doing when I arrived at the strawberry patch.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

It was teacher appreciation week at Emily's school last week.  They had a big lunch for the teachers and staff on Friday that I helped with but we wanted to do something personal for Emily's classroom teachers and special teachers and principal (12 all together).

Emily baked them some yummy brownies.

She made individual bags for them.

She went around one morning and delivered them all.  When she gave a bag to her principal he said, "I'm temped to eat them now."  She said, "That's okay, they are healthy brownies.  They are made with vegetable oil".  When we all started laughing she said, "What?  Vegetables are healthy."  It was so funny!

Spring Fling Music and Art Night

Last Friday night Emily's school had a big event.  First, the kindergarten and first grade classes had a general music concert.  They did a GREAT job singing.  This is Emily before the concert.

After the concert we were able to walk through the "art gallery" and pick up her art from art class this year.

Here she is with her wonderful art teacher.

We came home and hung all her art work, except for a book she made and some pottery, on her art wall.  Isn't it beautiful!

Her is a portrait she drew of Rosa Parks.  I think it's really good.

Here is a self-portrait she did at the beginning of the year (on the left) and one she did just a few weeks ago (on the right).  The difference is AMAZING!!!!!!!  It doesn't even seem like it was drawn by the same child.  By the way, the day she drew this she had a side pony-tail on the left side.  I thought at first she made one ear a lot bigger than the other and then she told me it was her side pony-tail.

Here is our family as a "robot family".  Notice that Jeff has just a few hairs sticking up on his head:)

After all the art activities, we had a Spring Fling outside with food, a band, raffles drawings, and a silent auction.  It was a fun night!  In a few weeks we will have her violin recital!  I can't wait!  We only have a few weeks until school it out....crazy!

Mother's Day Weekend

We had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.  Friday night we went to Spring Fling at Emily's school.  We also got to see her music singing concert and we got to walk through the art gallery and see her art.  I will post more about this later.

Saturday night we did our official Mother's Day celebrating.  We went to dinner at the Olive Garden and I got my wonderful Mother's Day surprises.  I got a mother/daughter WillowTree statue to go with my other ones.  I got a beautiful pink scarf and some really sweet cards from Jeff and Emily.  One had Emily's hand print and a recorded message!  I LOVE IT!

Saturday before dinner.

At dinner.

When we came home Emily planned a tea party in my honor.

Mother's Day morning Emily gave me a writing she had done at school for Mother's Day.

Why I Love You Mom...

Sunday after church we went to a carnival.

I love my family so much and I am blessed to be called Mommy!

This is a picture of me and my mother.  I miss her very much!  Happy Mother's Day!

Earth Day

Monday, April 22nd was Earth Day.  Emily asked if we could bring a bag and pick up trash on our walk after dinner.  She is such a sweet girl.  I'm so proud of her.

Another Opera

Emily has had an opportunity to see three operas that her daddy has done production for.  In April we took her to see her fourth opera.  This time Daddy wasn't working on the opera so he was able to sit with us.

We went to see Cinderella.  This was the longest opera she has ever sat through, around 2 hours.  She did really well and over all she enjoyed it although it was a little long for her.  The story differed from the Disney version which made it  interesting and confusing for her all at the same time.

Overall, it was a good experience for us all.

Here she is the fairy-god-mother!
