Emily decided that she wanted to take gymnastics this summer. After her first class she told me she didn't want to go back. It was really hard for her. The gym really pushes them to do well. They have lots of competition teams so even their beginner classes are serious. Emily is used to Little Gym and other places that are so positive about everything that this was a bit of a shock to her. We talked about how she had made a commitment and we had already paid for the lessons. We talked about how some things don't come as easy but the more she works the better she will get. We really encouraged her to stick with it and do her best. I was very proud of her. It was HARD for her but she continued to go and do her best. It was actually painful to watch the lessons. She tried so hard but she really struggled. Her teacher was not really into positive reinforcement. He was always telling her what she needed to change and he never seemed to notice the improvements she made. Gymnastics does not seem to be something she is gifted at but I think she learned a lesson this summer from the experience.
I did snap a few pictures on the first day and the last. I'm as happy as she is that the lessons are over:)
Here she is on the trampoline on the first day. She is the one on the trampoline on the far left. Her teacher is beside her in the yellow shirt. He was really nice and funny but he pushed her hard.
Last day...
She is swinging on the rope getting ready to jump in the foam bit. She really enjoyed this part.
